Designed by Steven K. Wood in 1980, the Sky Pup is the ultimate in simplicity and inexpensive flying. Since its release by Sport Flight Engineering, the company has sold many tens of thousands of plans sets, with at least many hundreds completed and flying.
The Sky Pup is a high wing fully cantilevered design, using no struts or wires as most ultralights do.The design is so clean aerodynamically, that this little airplane flies very well on as low as 20 horsepower!
The main materials used to build the ship are Dow blue foam, and douglas fir wood. Most of the materials are available locally at home supply stores, which saves an enormous amount of money that would have been used instead to pay shipping charges. Even the landing gear spring is a thin, light weight block of maple.
